Allergies
An allergy is an allergic reaction caused by the body reacting adversely to a substance. It can be very mild as in a minor irritation, or extreme as in anaphylaxis shock, where the mouth and airways swell and breathing becomes restricted.The most common allergic reactions are to certain foods, for example dairy, wheat, peanuts but a person can be allergic to almost anything. Other common allergies are to grass, animal fur, dust, dust mite and pollen.Allergies are known to cause the symptoms of Asthma, Eczema, Hay fever but different people display different symptoms depending on how their body reacts to the substance they are allergic to.CausesVery little is known about the actual cause of allergies. The incidence of allergy however has increased considerably in recent years. Recent studies have shown that Thimerosal in vaccines has been linked to allergies. Some professionals have also noticed an increase of allergies after the MMR was introduced, which does not contain Thimerosal but does cause adverse reactions in some children. |
