A convulsion or seizure is when a person’s body shakes rapidly and uncontrollably. During an episode the person’s muscles will contract and relax repeatedly.

There are many causes of convulsions identified these include Epilepsy, Alcohol Use, Drug use, Brain Illness or Injury, Choking, Fever (especially in children), Head Injury, Stroke, Low Blood Sugar.

Other Causes

Some disabilities for example Cerebral Palsy and Microcephaly have seizures or Epilepsy as part of their interweave and many genetic disorders such as Angelmans Syndrome, Fragile X and Turner Syndrome can include Epilepsy as a symptom.

Adverse reactions to childhood vaccinations have been also been identified by various professionals as far back as 1940’s to cause convulsions and Epilepsy. Thimerosal in vaccines has been found to cause epilepsy and convulsions in some children and in late 1970’s Prof Gordon Stewart voiced his concerns to both the Government and DOH about children having seizures after DPT vaccinations in particular the Whooping Cough component of the vaccination. Professionals have found that some children have had seizures and have gone on to develop Epilepsy and Brain Damage after the vaccine MMR.
