Hib stands for Haemophilus influenzae type b.
Hib was given as a single vaccine in 1992 as part of a national campaign and is now given with DTwP - diphtheria, tetanus and pertussis (whooping cough) at 2, 3 and 4 months.
The Illness
Haemophilus Influenzae Type b

Hib disease is a bacterial illness that can cause a potentially fatal brain infection in young children. Because of the widespread use of effective vaccines against Hib, very few cases are now diagnosed.

Hib disease is spread through contact with discharges or droplets from the nose or throat of an infected person.

Hib disease can be treated with antibiotics.
The Benefits of HIB Vaccine
The HIB Vaccination can prevent your child from contracting Haemopilus Influrnzae Type b which could lead to serious brain damage or even cause death.
Adverse Reactions to Vaccine
Whilst most children who have the HIB vaccine have no side effects some unfortunately do suffer adverse reactions.
