Profitable Harm is so concerned about the treatment of Lisa Blakemore-Brown over the last 11 years that we are posting information from one (of many) mothers whose children have been assessed by Lisa Blakemore-Brown.
This mothers concerns began when Lisa Blakemore-Brown faced a vexatious hearing at the BPS in August 2002. The complainant told the BPS months before the hearing that they would not be going to it, therefore it seems she was not willing to be cross examined. It was proven at the hearing that a forged document was sent to the BPS. Lisa Blakemore-Brown won her case as the case was thrown out in 2hours.
Even though Lisa Blakemore-Brown won the case, the consequences of such an event had huge repercussions on her career however she tried her best to carry on. She felt she owed it to the children to continue.
Also in 2002 Lisa Blakemore-Brown was asked by a mother , Jacqui Jackson, if she would allow the BBC to film the assessment of one of her 7 children later that year.Lisa agreed saying she would be delighted.
Jacqui said to Lisa that she was really taken by her use of the metaphor of the 'tapestry' and that she found that it really helped her to understand the complexities of each of her children and the variations between them. (for information on metaphor 'tapestry' go to http://www.profitableharm.com/tapestry_disorders.html )
The filming occurred in December 2002 at Brunel University where Lisa Blakemore-Brown had been asked to set up a Center for Autism on the Science Park in Uxbridge and it was July 2003 when the film was shown by the BBC.
The mother who contacted us explained that she like many other parents whose children had been assessed by Lisa was delighted and very excited that Jacqui's family were filmed along with their psychologist.
A pivotal part of the documentary she explained was the filming of the family traveling to Brunel for the assessment. During the assessment the haunting melody of 'American Beauty' could be heard in the background whilst the cameras focused on the windows of the assessment center, light turning to dark reflecting the length of time Lisa Blakemore-Brown takes when assessing a child. Small parts of the assessment were also shown.
Our mother continued to explain to us how even more excited everyone was to hear that this documentary was to be made into a film made exclusively for TV entitled 'The Magnificent Seven' starring, none other than Helena Bonham-Carter as Jacqui.
She continued to tell us that anyone viewing the 'My Family and Autism' documentary and the film 'The Magnificent Seven' would know the Magnificent Seven was a perfect replication of My Family and Autism EXCEPT – Lisa Blakemore-Brown, the traveling to Brunel and the filming of poignant scene waiting outside for assessment to be completed with the haunting melody of 'American Beauty' and the filming of the assessment was omitted completely. Even the part when Luke had commented that he had never seen his brother, 'Jo', concentrate so well. All of this this had been COMPLETELY AIRBRUSHED OUT.
Or Mother and those here at Profitable Harm wants to know why this happened ?
Things became steadily worse because we have been informed by parents that when parents and children tried to link to the BBC 'Ouch' website which was linked to the 'My Family and Autism' programmes they found to their horror, that even though the website stated that the link was to the website of the Psychologist featured in the programme, the link took them to a 'tapestry' sewing website in Baltimore USA.
After complaints were made to the BBC by various parents but instead of replacing the wrong link to the correct one the entire reference to Lisa Blakemore-brown and her work was removed from the BBC 'Ouch' website.
Our mother wrote to the BBC to complain and ask why Lisa Blakemore-Brown was not featured on the film 'The Magnificent Seven' and she was told the film was about the family and not Lisa Blakemore-Brown.
Fair enough you may say- so why then was the LEA Psychologist who did not feature in the first film featured instead?
